FAQ

Skin aging is influenced by numerous factors. The supply of nutrients to the epidermis (outer layer of skin) already starts to decline from the age of 25 onwards, resulting in a tired, sallow and uneven complexion. As people get older, fibroblast (cells that produce collagen) metabolism slows down, resulting in a continual decline in the collagen content of the skin. Since collagen is the primary »filler« in connective tissue, the skin loses tautness. The reduced cell regeneration also causes a loss of moisture and elasticity, ultimately resulting in the formation of wrinkles.
BEAUTY ANGEL uses light in special ranges of effectiveness to rejuvenate the skin naturally. The so-called Beauty Light is absorbed by the skin cells (fibroblasts), where it stimulates the body’s own production of collagen, elastic and hyaluronan. Small wrinkles are reduced and the skin becomes visibly tauter and smoother. The treatment also enhances the absorption of cosmetics into the skin, making them more effective. Enjoy a soothing session in the BEAUTY ANGEL and simply feel good in your skin!
Collagen is the most important protein in our body. It is a fundamental building block of connective tissue and is found not only in the skin, but also in tendons, joints, ligaments, bones, blood-vessel walls – and even in the cornea in the eye. As it is collagen that determines the firmness of connective tissue, it is also called the body’s “filler”. Sufficient collagen content is therefore the main requirement for skin to have a firm appearance – and indeed the whole body. But collagen is also vitally important for the health of bones, tendons, joints, ligaments etc.
Elastin is a so-called structural protein and part of connective tissue. Because it can stretch, elastin gives the skin its elasticity. Along with collagen and hyaluron it contributes significantly to having an attractive and youthful skin tone.
Hyaluron (also known as hyaluronic acid) is a natural substance in the body, and just like collagen and elastin is an important component of skin connective tissue. Like a sponge hyaluron can store large amounts of water and this gives the skin a plump and fresh appearance.
Fibroblasts are cells which occur in the connective tissue and are responsible mainly for the production of collagen, but also of elastin and hyaluron. As we grow older the metabolism of the fibroblasts slows down, which means the collagen content of the skin drops by on average 1% per year. This process is speeded up particularly during the menopause. Since collagen is the primary “filler” in connective tissue, the skin loses its tautness. The reduced cell regeneration also causes a loss of moisture and elasticity, ultimately resulting in the formation of wrinkles. The special light of the Beauty Light lamps stimulates the fibroblast metabolism and so increases the creation of collagen, elastin and hyaluron.
The results of the redlight treatment are directly related to your age, your lifestyle and the current state of health of your skin. Many users report a relaxing effect and a fresher, softer skin even after just one treatment. Best results are obtained from regular use over a longer time period. In a broadly-based study 80% of those surveyed had softer skin after one month, and over 60% other visible effects. After the second month all the results had clearly improved again. Users had a firmer skin, less wrinkles, finer pores and generally more even skin tone. Short-term results Soft, supple skin Increased moisture A more glowing complexion Increased resistance Refines pores and improves skin texture Relaxing, feel-good factor Long-term results Reduces small wrinkles on the face and décolleté Age and pigment spots fade Reduces swelling around the eyes Replenishes the collagen and elastin in the connective tissue – for visibly tauter skin on the whole body Positive influence on hair and nail growth, bones and tendons Improved regeneration capacity of muscles
Most users report a relaxing effect and a fresher, softer skin even after just the first few treatments. For the best results it should be used regularly over a longer time period. Depending on the reason for the treatment, various different treatment plans can be recommended: For youthful skin with the aim of toning the skin, reducing impurities and protection from environmental factors 10 treatments may be enough. To freshen the skin and combat the first signs of skin aging about 20 treatments should be applied over two months. For more mature skin, and to actively combat skin aging and wrinkles, about 30 treatments over three months are recommended. Of course recommended treatment plans may vary in individual cases. Results can be further improved by the additional use of top quality skincare products. Ideally you should support your treatment by adopting a healthy lifestyle. Make sure you get enough sleep, cut out smoking, eat a balanced diet and drink at least two litres of water per day. You will see – your body and skin will thank you for it!
The process of collagen and elastin synthesis continues for a period after completion of the sessions. You can easily preserve the results with two or three follow-up sessions a month and the use of special skincare products. For best results the BEAUTY ANGEL can of course be used once or week, or more often, after your course of treatment has been completed. There is no risk of overdosing.
The redlight treatment is harmless and is suitable for all skin types. People with low blood pressure or who are pregnant, suffer from epilepsy or increased light sensitivity, or are on medication that causes increased light sensitivity (e.g. antibiotics or St. John’s Wort) should, however, refrain from the treatment. For the first treatment a lower dose is recommended, to test for any adverse reaction. The Vibra-shape training should not be carried out immediately after an operation or if recently wounded, if you have heart/hip and bone problems, during pregnancy, with bone implants, acute thrombosis, gallstones or kidney stones, or during an acute illnesses or inflammation. If you suffer from diabetes, strong migraines, have a tumour or skin cancer or in other case where there is doubt, please consult your doctor.
The treatment should last between 10–20 minutes on average. The best results are obtained from a treatment that always lasts 20 minutes. We recommend a break of 48 hours between treatments.
Because of the bright light you should keep your eyes closed during the treatment. Wearing sunglasses helps to make the process more comfortable.
While many cosmetic treatments only enhance the surface of the skin, thanks to the use of red light the skin tissue is firmed and regenerated from the inside. The Beauty light reduces the causes of skin aging in a particularly gentle way. The treatment is very agreeable and there is no risk of inflammation or erythema (rashes).
In particular the combination with the BEAUTY ANGEL CVT 42 patented Vibra Shape training plate can help to tauten connective tissue and fight cellulite.
A Beauty Light is a light which makes skin more beautiful and younger-looking thanks to its special active spectrums.
In particular the combination with the BEAUTY ANGEL CVT 42 patented Vibra Shape training plate can help to tauten connective tissue and fight cellulite
The complement to the light treatment using Vibra Shape provides a whole body approach to beauty and fitness. This is made possible by the vibration plate built into the support frame. This high-quality training equipment was used in several studies by the European Space Agency and today is used mainly in physiotreatment. A natural human walk is simulated using patented technology, which means that Vibra Shape, unlike other training equipment, is a 100% physiological training method. With alternating side movements it trains all of the muscles from the legs up into the abdomen and back. Your head can be kept still during this. At the same time calories are consumed and by tautening the connective tissue cellulite can be effectively prevented. At the same time, improved circulation and micro-circulation reinforce the results of photo bio stimulation. By the way: Combining training with collagen generation is a method for protecting joints that is highly recommended, even for athletes.
Yes. While normal cosmetic treatments mainly enhance the surface of the skin, photo bio stimulation firms and regenerates the skin tissue from the inside. As the treatment also helps the absorption of cosmetics into the skin, it can make cosmetic products work particularly effectively. This means that by combining treatments you can achieve particularly impressive results. We recommend the BEAUTY ANGEL skincare line, which was developed specially to work with redlight treatment. Ask your skin consultant for advice.
For optimum effect you should remove make-up and cosmetics before exposure to the red light (e.g. via a peeling). Unknown cosmetics might contain ingredients which could trigger light sensitive reactions. Normal sun cosmetics should not be used. There are special skin-care products for red light treatments, which complement and intensify its action. The use of normal day cream/body lotion after a red light treatment is not necessary, but will not have any negative effect on the results. Some possible negative effects of ingredients (e.g. silicon oils: block the pores and prevent the skin breathing – or parabens: act like hormones and change the skin reactions) may cancel out the effects of the red light treatment.
Photo bio stimulation means stimulating the body´s own process of rejuvenation by light. With BEAUTY ANGEL the skin cells (fibroblasts) are very gently stimulated by light in special active spectrums to produce more collagen, elastin and hyaluron.
Many different studies have proven that the combination of visible light and near-infrared give particularly good results. The effective active spectrums of Energizing Light Technology are created by the combination of newly developed high-pressure bulbs with specially coated filter glasses and unique glass reflectors. The combination optimizes the results of photo bio stimulation and creates a new light experience
Different light spectrums have different effects on the skin and the body. Beauty Light improves the supply of oxygen to our skin and stimulates the fibroblasts to promote gentle skin rejuvenation (photo rejuvenation). Sunlight improves blood circulation properties and stimulates the body’s natural production of Vitamin D. In addition, UV produces an attractive tan. For the best skin rejuvenation you should use pure Beauty Light! Combining the light spectrums can increase the bio positive effects and minimize the unwanted side effects of tanning, such as drying out the skin.
Red light treatment is also used medically to heal wounds. But in order to completely eliminate any risk of infection, if you have open wounds, new or inflamed tattoos, piercings etc. you should wait until they have fully healed. Unlike with tanning beds, piercings should not be removed to avoid any physical irritation of the pierced opening which might occur e.g. with newly healed piercings (reactivation). A gentle peeling before the red light treatment provides the perfect complement, as it improves penetration into the skin.
There is nothing that would lead to any harmful interactions with red light sessions and tattoos. The BEAUTY ANGEL generates light energy primarily in the near infrared and visible regions of the light spectrum (non-UV). Because these are never stronger than natural sunlight, unwanted side effects like fading of tattoos are very unlikely. However, if any symptoms occur that could indicate an incompatibility, you should stop use this type of light treatment. As always, if you have any concerns about using the BEAUTY ANGEL, you should consult with your physician or other healthcare professional.
Permanent hair removal (laser, JPL) is carried out using a substantial input of light energy in the form of strong light beams. This irritates the skin and causes a change in its light tolerance. For safety reasons, for at least 48 hours before and at least 48 hours after light-based hair removal you should not be exposed to any red light treatment.
No problem with these. But if nail growth is stimulated by the red light treatment then artificial nails can prove a bit of nuisance.
The light spectrum used by Beauty Light lies within the range of visible light. Only the Energizing Light Technology (CHP plus) also uses a part of the near-infrared range (up to about 850 nm). This range is not suitable for destroying fat cells. Although there is a study in which the combined application of near-infrared with suitable movement training led to a reduction in layers of fat compared to the control group without near-infrared.
This is theoretically possible, but mainly if you are exposed to long-wave infrared (> 1,500 nm) which is not used at all in the Beauty Angel. The spectrum used in the Energizing Light Technology within the near-infrared range up to a maximum of 850 nm, if applied for the recommended time periods, presents no risk of burning.
There are in-vitro tests that confirm that infrared rays do speed up skin ageing. But these are based on irradiation at strengths and in ranges which Beauty Angel does not use.
No, the infrared irradiation used for the Energizing Light Technology has no significant impact on the protein content of the body. There is no risk of overdosing provided the dosage instructions are followed. However, there are indications that use before and after muscle training is beneficial (loosening of muscles, reduction of late onset muscle pain, improvement of circulation etc.)
Many cases have been known where users have reported a clear improvement in scars or scar tissue after using Beauty Light. And lightening of pigmented areas is one of the many effects noted from infrared treatment.
The presence of varicose veins and spider veins does not prevent using the red light treatment. But there is no history of red light treatment improving them. If there is any risk of vein thrombosis or an acute vein infection then the treatment should not be carried out.
The red light treatment promotes micro-circulation and circulation in the skin. The improved circulation and the associated improvement in oxygen supply to the skin is one of the reasons why tanning results improve using a combination of UV and Beauty Light.
Whether you get your tan indoors or outdoors, you skin produces a tan the same way - by absorbing ultraviolet light. When you tan outdoors there are a large number of factors that affect how much ultraviolet light you get - sky conditions (clear vs cloudy), latitude (how far north/south you are), altitude, time of day, season, the type and strength of sunscreen; the list goes on. Fifteen minutes today may give you a tan; fifteen minutes tomorrow could burn you badly. By tanning indoors you are in a controlled environment where you get a consistent amount of ultraviolet light day in and day out. Exposure times are determined by equipment and trained professionals that take into account previous tanning sessions as well as the tanner's skin type. In this way your tan gets a chance to develop properly without burning. Many people mix indoor and outdoor tanning - the indoor session gives them the controlled exposure and gets the tan started; they can now go outside, put on sunscreen and enjoy the day, replenishing the sunscreen as necessary. This is the best of both worlds. This is SMART tanning.
If you can tan outdoors in the sun, you can tan indoors - it's the same type of light, in the same proportions, as you would get outside. It is a higher intensity but it is over a relatively short period of time so you can get the same exposure in 20 minutes indoors that you would need over an hour to get outside. If you always burn when outdoors, do not waste your time or money trying to tan indoors because the result will be the same - you'll just burn sooner and faster. If in doubt our staff will assist you in determining your skin type (see below) and this skin type will tell you whether or not indoor tanning is for you.
This depends heavily on your skin type (see below) and health, and the frequency of visits. On average it will take 3-7 sessions to achieve a good base tan if you tan every second day and follow the regimen recommended by our staff. After a base tan is established you can maintain it with regular visits. The frequency of the visits depends on your individual skin characteristics and the type of tanning bed but will typically be once or twice per week. Use of a quality tanning lotion will allow your tan to develop faster, with better colour, and last longer. Plus, you'll find that you need fewer tanning sessions to achieve and maintain your desired colour.
For best results, you should wait 36-48 hours between sessions as it may take that long for your skin to react to the last session. It takes as long as 48 hours for your body to produce melanin after your tanning session, so going more frequently does nothing to help develop your tan - it simply dries and thickens your skin, which makes it harder to tan.
Yes. Indoor tanning lotions ensure that your skin is best prepared for its exposure to tanning rays, and maximize the tanning experience. Here are some good reasons why you should consider using a quality tanning lotion: • Excellent skin care - lotions are scientifically designed to rejuvenate your skin cells for noticeably younger and smoother skin. Most higher-end lotions use the same high-quality skin care ingredients that you would find in products such as L'Oreal, Oil of Olay and many others. • Moist skin tans more quickly and efficiently than dry skin. This means that you get better tanning results with fewer visits. Using a quality lotion can actually save you money AND give you a deeper, darker, more natural tan. • Darker results - achieve up to 50% darker results than what your skin can do naturally. This is done by adding ingredients that promote extra melanin production. Some lotions contain extra bronzing agents that will give you extra colour that will last 5-7 days longer. • Hydration - lotions add then seal the moisture in your skin. Hours after your session you skin will feel softer and smoother, and look darker. • Dry skin prevents you from getting a decent tan. How? • Dry skin reflects UV light, preventing it from producing or reacting with the melanin deeper in your skin. • Dry skin flakes/rubs off quickly, taking your hard-earned tan with it. • You should use tanning lotion for your skin for the same reason you use shampoo or conditioner for your hair - it enhances, softens, moisturizes and improves the look and feel of your hair. The same applies to your skin.
Yes, always. First of all our insurance policy demands that we ensure that each customer has protective eyewear, and our waiver form reflects that. Secondly, UV light can cause significant damage to the cornea and retina of your eyes, resulting in cataracts or worse. Eyelids or towels are not enough as the UV light will still penetrate them and do damage. Not using proper eye protection may result in short term effects such as tired, itchy eyes, headaches and loss of night vision. No one should ever be in a tanning bed without eye protection. As with many other things, the bad effects of not wearing goggles may not manifest themselves until years later when you suddenly ask yourself, "Why do my eyes itch/hurt?" - it may relate back to the incorrect/missing eye protection from years earlier. Protection now is the key.
Once you stop tanning (indoors or outdoors), your skin will fade back to its normal colour in approximately 28-30 days. It takes about that long for the upper layer of your skin to be sloughed off and replaced by untanned cells from the lower layer. Proper skin care with tanning lotions and moisturizers will delay the exfoliation process, however a tan can only be maintained through repeated exposure to UV light.
Skin types are the way individual’s skin is categorized based on its likely reaction to ultraviolet light. Our staff will help you determine your skin type and recommend a tanning regimen based on this. The skin types are as follows: TYPE 1 - Always burns easily, severely, never tans. TYPE 2 - Burns easily, tans minimally or lightly peels. Fair skin. TYPE 3 - Burns moderately and will eventually tan. TYPE 4 - Burns minimally and will tan well. TYPE 5 - Always tans, rarely burns. TYPE 6 - Always tans profusely. Never burns. Note that anyone with skin type 1 will not be allowed to tan as the likelihood of burning is too high.

Spray tanning is becoming more popular because of the instant colour you get. In minutes you can get a deep brown tan that will last for approximately 7-10 days. It's perfect for special events like weddings or proms, or when you just want to get rid of tan lines. If you are one who does not like the idea of tanning inside or outside but still want/need some colour, this is the perfect solution. Most spray tanning solutions use DHA - a sugar-based product - to coat your skin. This "sets" into your skin by reacting with the proteins and amino acids to turn your skin a nice shade of brown. Our sunless offering consists of what is called "airbrush" tanning, which is done by a certified technician who "paints" a tan onto your body with a spray gun. It is NOT a booth that showers you with solution that you then have to wipe off - it is carefully applied by the technician who ensures that the right amount of solution is used in the right places to ensure the best result. Additionally, our service allows for part-body tanning (face/neck, or legs only, for example) so that you can simply tan the areas that need it (upper body for strapless dresses, for example). There is more information in our Sunless section
We do not use the word SAFE when it comes to indoor tanning - we prefer the term SMART. Here's why: the term "safe" implies that one can recklessly abuse something without any fear of causing harm. Reckless use of ultraviolet equipment can certainly cause harm to an individual so "safe" is not in our vocabulary. By educating the public and preventing reckless abuse, professional tanning salons are playing a key role in promoting a SMART approach to sunburn prevention that recognizes that people do perceive different benefits from being in the sun. In this way we are able to teach sunburn prevention in a practical way that respects both the potential benefits and the risks of sun exposure. And, we can apply it to both indoor and outdoor tanning equally as our goal is to achieve adequate and proper sun exposure without burning.
Your sunless tan is achieved using an aloe based solution containing an ingredient called DHA (dihydroxy acetone).
DHA is widely used in cosmetic products worldwide. DHA reacts with the skins proteins to develop a sunless 'tan', which takes 2-6 hours to develop.
As you are in a private room you can wear whatever you want or don't want during your sunless session.
Results will last anywhere from 5-10 days, depending on how well you prepared your skin for the application and how well you maintain your sunless tan once you have left the salon.
It is best to shower a few hours prior to your session and exfoliate well with an exfoliating scrub, available for purchase at La Bella Sole Tanning Lounge. Be sure to not use any moisturizers immediately before your session, as it can create a barrier between your skin and the sunless solution.
The best way to extend the life of your sunless tan is to keep your skin well hydrated and avoid hot tubs, swimming pools and long baths. Using a moisturizer with a hint of sunless tanner or bronzer (available at La Bella Sole Tanning Lounge) will keep your results fresher longer. Using a gel or cream body wash is recommended, as bar soaps are very drying to the skin. Having showers instead of baths will also help to prolong your results. Do not exfoliate for at least 7 days or until you are ready for your sunless tan to come off.
You need to bring dark, loose fitting clothing to wear after your session...the solution contains an instant bronzer which may rub off onto your clothing until your initial shower 6-8 hours after your session, while this bronzer is water soluble we recommend dark clothing to avoid any staining.
You must wait to bathe or shower for at least 6-8 hours and should shower prior to working out, as the instant bronzer will 'sweat' off as you workout.
You should wait a day in between sunless sessions to allow the self tanner to fully develop before deciding if you wish to be darker.
No. The sensor works to a far greater degree of accuracy by measuring the individual sensitivity of the skin. Theoretically, the sensor can measure an infinite number of skin types to calculate an individual UV dose.
Nothing. The sensor is switched off during a tanning session.
Yes and no. The sensor detects redness on the skin and calculates a lower dose. In some cases, customers may receive a lower UV dosage if they come back in for a tanning session within twenty-four hours (to be avoided) ? whetherfrom a sunbed or the natural sun. The sensor will recognise the redness, which may or may not be recognisable to the naked eye.
Avoiding sunburn ? the skin?s current sensitivity to UV light is recorded before each session and the UV power emitted is individually adjusted accordingly. · Perfect tanning result: Intelligently blending UV-A and UV-B makes better use of those UV spectrum ranges that give you a tan. · Separate output levels for the face and body, as UV sensitivity is usually different between the face and body. · Additional skin analysis using classic features such as eye and hair colour or freckles is unnecessary. Remember that people with skin type I (sensitive skin) should not be using a sunbed or sunbathing at all. · The preset 20 minutes gives you more time to tan existing pigment and generate new pigment. · No complex calibration on the measuring station or sunbed is necessary. · Fast measurement. Does this eliminate consultation in our salon? No, the following points need to be mentioned: · Medications, as many available may have phototoxic effects and make the skin more sensitive. The following groups should not sunbathe: · Non-pigmented skin type I (sensitive skin) and skin type II with freckles. · Anyone with unusual and/or many moles, anyone with a frequent family history of melanoma or anyone younger than eighteen years of age.
No. However, you can reduce the power manually using the facial tanner button or turn off the facial tanners completely. The tanners can be turned on or powered up within the limits of the original power level calculated.
Yes, the facial tanners start at the highest level calculated for the face in the first measurement; the power may decrease during the tanning session. The Voice Guide will inform you on any adjustment in power before it happens.
Yes. Depending on the skin measurement, the UV-B or TYPE B low-pressure lamps may be switched off in the face or body area, or dimmed in the face area. This reduces any risk of sunburn and protects your customers.
No. The lamp geometry and gap between lamps and body have been designed in such a way as to eliminate stripes forming.
Yes, we have implemented the benefi ts of performance regulation using dimmable electronic ballasts using two integrated lamp set chip cards for types A and B (adjusting UV output for aging lamps).
Because less UV power is emitted; the lamps are more often dimmed or completely switched off, extending the life of your UV lamps.
By electronic ballasts that vary power between 80 and 200W.
This is the time that 93% of all Europeans need to reach an ideal tan.
Yes, you can change the time in preset mode to any time between 15 and 30 minutes. The twenty-minute period is ideal, however.
No. Skin types II to IV are given as much UV light as they can safely take on the given day throughout the tanning session (twenty minutes). Nobody with skin type I (sensitive skin) should attempt to tan on a sunbed or in the sun.
